Defining the role of local authorities under public international law
Co-authored by Prof. Elisa Fornalé (World Trade Institute, University of Bern) and Federica Cristani, this blog post forms a part of a series of posts of the Refugee Law Initiative (School of Advanced Study, University of London) examining the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the aftermath of the first UNECE review that took place on 12-13 November 2020.
In the blog posts, the authors analyse the reports submitted by states on the progress made in the achievements of the commitments and actions specified in objectives 2 and 5 of the GCM which are aimed at minimizing the adverse drivers to migration and at enhancing regular migration, respectively.
